Blogging: To New Beginnings
Let’s Try This Blogging Thing Again
I hope your new year is off to a great start! This year, I’m hoping to make blogging a priority in 2025. Over the past few years, I’ve started and stopped my blogging journey multiple times, and it’s been quite a cycle.
I always felt that I needed a specific direction or niche, but I would quickly get stuck trying to generate ideas. I often felt like others were already doing it better than I ever could.
And yes, I know I shouldn’t compare my Chapter 1 to someone else’s Chapter 15, but we’re all human, and it’s hard not to do that sometimes.
This year, I’m going to write whatever comes to mind and see what resonates with me.
Why am I interested in blogging?
For me, blogging is a great creative outlet that doesn't require much money to get started. It’s flexible enough to fit into my schedule whenever I need or want to. For instance, I’m writing this during my lunch break at work on a Google Doc because I needed a mini-break from my 9-to-5 workday.
If I failed before, why am I trying again?
Well, the first time I started blogging, I was only a few months in when I found out I was pregnant with baby number two. Around the same time, my husband’s job was “encouraging” him to move closer to the office, which would have required a relocation from Raleigh, NC, to Arlington, VA. Between being pregnant, having a toddler at home, attempting to move, and working full time, something had to give—and that something was blogging.
The next time I tried to blog, I had just returned to work after having baby number two. I thought I would jump into the digital marketing craze and build a blog around it, but that never took off because I didn’t feel invested in it, and my ADHD made things particularly challenging after baby number two.
I probably had a few other attempts at starting a blog, but fingers crossed this time around will be different!
What am I interested in blogging about?
Primarily, I want to focus on topics related to home life—think home management, organization, cleaning, and décor. I’d also love to sprinkle in some insights about family life and work-life balance.
Do I hope to monetize my blog?
One day! I think that’s a common goal for many people who start blogging. But for now, I’m focusing on setting aside time to write and trying to make posting on a consistent schedule a habit. In the past, the pressure of monetization has sometimes blocked me from getting past those first few blog posts.
So that’s my blogging story in a nutshell. I hope you stick around and enjoy my future ramblings!
