Living up to my New Year Resolutions in 2025
Have you made any resolutions this year?
Honestly, I’m struggling to come up with something that feels meaningful. Perhaps I’m hoping for something profound.
Last year was different. We had finally moved past the “two under two” stage, and I wanted to shift my mindset from feeling like I was constantly in survival mode to feeling like we were thriving. Maybe it was due to having babies during COVID and staying at home during lockdown while I was pregnant, which made me feel unprepared to venture into the world with a newborn.
I was pregnant with my first child right around the time when there were stories of moms being separated from their babies if they tested positive for COVID, and husbands suddenly barred from the delivery room. It was a crazy time.
And by no means do I have everything figured out when it comes to parenthood. But last year marked a turning point for us, we started exploring more and participating in activities on the weekends—a significant change from the previous few years when it still felt like we were in a prolonged lockdown.
When it comes to resolutions, I often find myself eyeing the usual suspects: “read more,” “lose weight,” and “eat healthy.” Those goals seem safe, yet somehow, they often slip through my fingers by February.
Maybe the trick is to set smaller, more manageable goals. Or set them up for better success.
For example, to read more books, I could pre-select 12 books—one for each month—so that I don't feel overwhelmed or uncertain about what to read next. Alternatively, I could join Book Club of the Month for added motivation.
I think I’ll do a three-month check-in to see if I can find better ways to stick to these basic resolutions. Here’s hoping!
